Why You Should Donate Blood

2021-04-30T17:03:36+10:00

It only takes an hour to donate blood, but it could save someone’s life. A few years ago I decided that I wanted to donate blood. I was disheartened that I wasn’t able to complete my first donation. You see, I am a fainter. I don’t like needles. I really don’t like having blood taken. Even talking about it often makes me go weak at the knees. But I just felt really strongly that this was something that I needed to do. I felt so strongly about it that I became emotional thinking about it. Since that first attempt, I [...]

2018 Goals

2022-07-30T09:39:17+10:00

Here’s to the new year! This year I have decided not to set any goals or resolutions, but pick a word, theme or phrase for the year. I wish that I could claim this idea as my own. I first heard about it while listening to Happier with Gretchen Rubin, my favourite podcast. The idea is you pick a word, theme or phrase to focus on for the year. I have cheated, choosing 2 themes to focus on. Relationships This theme is directed more towards friendships, but I also want to build stronger relationships with my family & colleagues. I [...]

2017 Review

2026-05-11T15:05:58+10:00

Here it is, my 2017 review! To quote Katy Perry: that was such an epic fail! (Firework by Katy Perry). General Read - Reading is hard when you don't have much time for yourself! I read a lot more books to my daughter than I read to myself. It turns out I read/listened to 15 adult books in 2017.  Actually, take a lunch break - I quit my job back in May, so I can't say I've worked through my lunch break much lately. Even while I was at work I was just as busy that I still ate at [...]

I Never Had Anxiety Until I Was Pregnant

2018-11-06T21:26:42+11:00

I had never experienced anxiety until I was pregnant. I didn't believe people that suffered from anxiety. Honestly, I just thought they were making excuses because I didn't understand it. I'm sure I'm not alone there either. There are many mental illnesses that people don't believe just because they don't understand. For me, anxiety feels like I'm overwhelmed, stressed, freaked out & have the energy to burn all at the same time. The first time I thought I was experiencing anxiety I was at work. I really didn't know what was happening to me or what I was feeling. The [...]

30 Days of French

2018-09-16T15:13:59+10:00

THE CHALLENGE complete 30 consecutive days of French practice using the Duolingo app Ever since I was a kid I wanted to learn French & visit France. It was a huge bonus to attend a high school that offered French, as well as Japanese. In year 10 I was lucky enough to visit New Caledonia for a week as a part of an exchange type program. It was a beautiful country & spurred me on to one day get to France. I studied French the whole way through high school, doing a 15-minute oral conversation as a part of my [...]

30 Days of Green Tea

2026-05-13T09:37:01+10:00

THE CHALLENGE drink at least 1 cup of green tea per day, for 30 days in a row. I started drinking green tea roughly four years ago. I tend to prefer hot drinks in the cooler months & cold drinks in the warmer months. This means I drink more tea, coffee and hot chocolate in winter, more water in summer. I used to be quite sensitive to caffeine, I'd have to have my tea or coffee by midday or risk not being able to sleep that night. Also having the odd panic attack when I had too much caffeine. It [...]

The Parcel Autumn 2017

2018-09-15T12:13:54+10:00

Apologies, I have been so slack with the Parcel Autumn edition. I forgot to take a photo of the outside packaging before I disposed of it. I took way too long to try everything. Then I took even longer to sit down to write about it. FACE Burt's Bees - Lip Crayon 100% Natural I do quite like the few Burts Bees products I have tried & this is no exception. The colour is a good match for me, it looks quite natural. The only let down is it smell quite waxy, like a crayon. Biore - Baking Soda Scrub [...]

I Got Stuck on a Desert Island

2018-09-16T20:06:43+10:00

When I was in primary school a popular screen saver on the computer in our classroom was a little man stuck on a desert island. Since then I have come across the question of what I'd take to a desert island several times. It's a popular interview question and was part of getting to know my fellow online classmates recently. I've decided to make this a little more specific. I know I'm going to the desert island. I will be there for one year. I can take 5 things with me. I've given this some serious thought. Avoiding obvious choices [...]

My Secret Pinterest Boards

2018-09-16T20:11:29+10:00

I like to think that I jumped on the Pinterest bandwagon quite early. Especially since almost everything starts out in America. From what I can tell, my first pin was pinned 5 years ago, which would have been 2012. Pinterest introduced secret boards in late 2012. I can’t even remember which of these boards was the first that I created. But I knew there were some things I wanted to keep for later but wanted to keep private. Here's a list of my secret boards & what I use them for. Blog Ideas In all honesty, there are way too [...]

What would you do with $1 Million?

2018-09-16T20:27:42+10:00

When I was in grade 5 we had an assignment: spend one million dollars. The idea was to cut out items we wanted from catalogues in order to spend one million dollars. Most of my classmates 'purchased' houses, then we had to furnish them. Then came the flash cars & boats. Almost 20 years later my priorities have certainly changed! I was prompted to revisit this idea by Nikki from mbasahm.com. Pay off mortgage This seems like a no-brainer to me. Without a mortgage, we would have so much more disposable income available for other pursuits. Pay off other debts Other [...]

The Parcel Summer 2016

2018-09-15T12:30:51+10:00

FACE Nude by Nature - Sheer Glow BB Cream I really liked the Nude by Nature mineral powder in the Spring Parcel so I was expecting good things. But I was a little disappointed. The colour match is great but I am yet top find a BB Cream that isn’t patchy. It has also left my face shiny, so I will have to use a powder on top. Nip+Fab - Glycolic Fix Daily Cleansing Pads I don't recall having tried anything glycolic before. After using these pads for a few days in a row my face does feel a bit [...]

2017 Goals

2026-05-13T09:35:48+10:00

Once again, I've had a good long hard think about my 2017 goals. There were a few on last years list that I didn’t complete but I don’t want to repeat those again. General Read - This year I'd like to complete a Popsugar reading challenge. I always find out about it too late but I've come across the 2017 challenge already. You can see the Popsugar article about the challenge here. Actually, take a lunch break - I really need to get away from my desk & computer when I eat lunch. This includes when I am at the office [...]

2016 Review

2022-07-30T09:39:35+10:00

Another year has come to an end, so it's time to do the 2016 review. Here is a review of the goals I set for myself at the beginning of the year. Check out the original posts 2016 Goals. Goals Read – Rather than actually reading the books on my to-read list, I reevaluated it. I read the synopsis of each book on the list to decided if I really wanted to read it. Lots of books didn't make the cut & I'm ok with it. My current to-read list has 35 books. Make different things for dinner – I think I [...]

Reverse Bucket List

2022-07-30T09:39:52+10:00

A reverse bucket list is a bucket list of the items I have already completed. Of course, this isn't the extensive list, I do like to keep a few things to myself! In case you missed it, there are still quite a few items on my bucket list. Reverse Bucket List Gamble in Las Vegas – I managed to win about $90 after only putting in $3 (2013) Buy a real Louis Vuitton bag – I saved up to buy a Multicolore Speedy 30 in white (Champs Elysée, France 2011) Ride around London in a double-decker bus (2011) Eat pizza, [...]
