So Blessed: A Modern-Day Cliche

2026-05-11T14:36:11+10:00

I hate to use a modern-day cliche but sometimes I really do feel so blessed. Yesterday was certainly one of those days. Last night I had a chance to reflect a little. Thirteen years ago I had the chance to reconnect with some old family friends. Normally I would not have taken up that opportunity but I thought why the heck not? This group of family friends has grown, as other friends have been added, partners have been added and now kids have also been added into the mix. Some of these people I have known since I was born [...]

But I’m Not An Old Mum

2018-09-17T21:56:47+10:00

I recently read an article about why Sarah from Sarah’s Sage Advice waited to have children. It got me thinking about what my plan was for when I wanted to have children. I never wanted to be an old mum. When I was a kid I always considered my mother to be old. But in comparison to my friend's parents, she wasn’t old. She is around the same age as most of them. She is the same age as my mother in law. In fact, they are only 5 days apart. Mind you I never saw my dad as old, [...]

When Pregnancy Announcements Are Too Much

2023-09-18T15:15:46+10:00

Every new pregnancy announcement still sends my brain into a whirl. I thought after getting pregnant with my daughter those feelings would go away. My daughter is now 21 months, and my initial feelings are still the same. My heart jumps into my throat, and my knees go weak. I can’t look away from the screen. I hope that it's all just a silly prank. If I'm honest, I also think they are an idiot, but that's a story for another day. I can’t help but take it personally. It’s like the universe is constantly reminding me. I know they [...]

Pregnancy Surprises

2018-11-06T21:19:32+11:00

I was one of the lucky ones. I had it really easy, with no pregnancy surprises. I didn't have experience high blood pressure, gestational diabetes or Hyperemesis Gravidarum. You could even say that I enjoyed it. That's not to say there weren't a few things that surprised me about being pregnant. Morning Sickness For me, morning sickness was not what I was expecting it to be. I only actually threw up about 10 times, and only once did I throw up twice in one day. But I constantly felt sick, like I was going to throw up. This made it [...]

Things I Didn’t Experience During Pregnancy

2018-11-06T21:20:31+11:00

Pregnancy is different for everyone. It's even different with each child. Here are some of the common things women experience during pregnancy that I didn't encounter. Cravings Sure I had cravings. But it wasn’t a case of "I must not stop until I get this". It was more like a regular craving that would pass without having to give in. And while I don’t think it’s considered a craving, I found milk was often the only thing that would satiate my thirst. I would get up in the middle of the night and chug some milk. Being warm I did [...]

Breastfeeding Struggles, Advice, Success

2024-07-27T15:38:15+10:00

I always wanted to breastfeed. But am ashamed to admit I honestly thought those that said it was too hard or hurt too much weren’t trying hard enough. How amazing is hindsight? I now know how hard breastfeeding is. I left the hospital with cracked, bleeding and scabby nipples. When the midwife visited, she was able to leave me with a loan great pump to see if that would help. After returning the loan pump to the hospital I borrowed one from my sister in law, and it was a godsend, especially when I returned to work. Breastfeeding Advice The best [...]

Quote Monday Redesign

2018-08-29T21:27:11+10:00

I have just completed a pretty big feat. I have just completed updating all of my old Quote Monday posts. Back in November, I decided that I should be using the same layout for all of my Quote Monday posts. By then I was already up to 110, so that meant I had to re-do 110 posts. It has taken eight months, but I am proud to say it is done. It wasn't easy. There were so many steps to make it right. Quote Monday Redesign The first thing I did was go through each and every Quote Monday post and [...]

Life Lessons From a 30-Year-Old

2023-09-18T15:47:22+10:00

Last year I turned 30, and in all that time I’ve learned quite a lot. Some of it important, like how to adult and some not so important, like the words to too many songs from the 90s. Most of these life lessons I learned in my 20s, but some are quite recent, like number 15. So here are my 30 life lessons from a 30-year-old. Have an outlet to relieve your frustrations; write, exercise, meditate etc. Prioritise by working out what is important to you. Stop spending your time on things you don’t enjoy. Hate a particular chore? Outsource it. [...]

The Easiest Meal Plan

2020-04-07T11:13:58+10:00

The importance of meal planning is touted on almost every money-saving blog and is a priority for many stay-at-home parents. But I generally meal plan because I like to know what to expect. You see I am horrible with surprises and not that good when it comes to a change of plans. But I think I've come up with the easiest meal plan. I only meal plan our dinners and I try my best to be flexible about it. Events pop up out of nowhere and there are nights when nobody wants to cook. Most of the items are stored in [...]

Beloved Autumn

2018-08-29T20:28:34+10:00

I have to admit, fall favourites does sound a lot better than autumn favourites. But in the spirit of being true to myself, I'm going to stick with calling it autumn, my beloved autumn. Autumn is actually my favourite season. I just love the colours. Especially at the start of the season, when parts of the trees just burst into different colours. I was also lucky enough to be in the US during the fall. I tasted almost everything pumpkin flavoured that I came across. At one stage I think I almost turned into a Pumpkin Spice Latte, I had that [...]

The Year of Change

2026-05-11T14:41:01+10:00

The last twelve months have been the year of change. Twelve months is a long time, but then again it isn’t. I know my life has changed dramatically in that time. I quit my job after 9 years. My experience with postnatal depression is now behind me. Our little family went on an interstate holiday for the first time since 2010. And I shouldn’t forget that I turned 30, gracefully. I quit my job About halfway through my pregnancy, I decided that I wanted to quit my job. I loved the work, I had a variety every day with what [...]

The 30 Days I Gave Up Coffee

2026-05-11T12:12:46+10:00

THE CHALLENGE I gave up coffee, for 30 days in a row. Call me impulsive, but I gave up coffee. I had my last beautiful brew on Friday, January 12. The surprising thing is that I don’t really miss it as much as I thought I would. I would have given it up earlier knowing that. Now don’t get me wrong, I do love the taste of coffee, that’s why I drink it. I do also use it as a substitute for morning tea, to keep me going through to lunch. But over the years I have learned that I [...]

Happy in Love

2026-05-11T12:14:35+10:00

Happy in love, after all this time? Always. Where it all began My husband and I met through a mutual friend while I was in my last year of high school. It was really fun at the start before either of us had a license, we had to rely on other people so we could see each other. He actually asked me out over MSN Messenger. We are coming up to 13 years together this year. It feels like a lifetime and it won't be long before we have known each other for more than half of our lives. The [...]
