Looking back on my experiences of 2020

2026-05-11T12:06:53+10:00

So 2020 is coming to an end. I'm sure many people are glad to see the back of it and looking forward to the new year. But I've taken the last month or so to look back on 2020. And because of all of the changes this year, I feel like I have more to reflect on than in previous years. I think comes down to taking the time to be more grateful. So this is a summary of my year and the things that stand out in my mind. My word of the year I've picked a word of [...]

My Favourite Tools for Goal Setting Success

2024-05-06T16:24:08+10:00

There are many ways to be successful when it comes to setting and achieving your goals. But some tools can make the whole process a whole lot easier and much more fun. There are three particular tools for goal setting that have really made a difference in my success. Write it down I think writing down your goals is probably one of the most well-known goal-setting tools. There are a lot of different statistics out there about it. But you are about 40% more likely to achieve your goals if you write them down. So if you only do one [...]

Get Your House in Order, Get Your Life in Order

2020-07-30T14:32:08+10:00

Keeping a clean and orderly house its not always at the top of your list of priorities, but for some people it is. And for those that don't prioritise it, getting your house in order might take less effort than you might think. Laundry and dishes seem to be the bane of my existence, especially since we are all spending so much time at home at the moment. But there are a few things you can do to get your house in order that will also help you get your life in order. 1. Make your bed Whether you throw [...]

Why the time of day you exercise matters

2026-05-11T11:41:50+10:00

If you are anything like me at the moment, you are (stuck) at home. And I am currently at home my husband, my 3-year-old and my mother in law. Between trying to work at home, entertain my daughter and keeping the house running as close to normal as possible, something was starting to give. My gym was closed. And it didn't have any online classes. But I knew I still needed to keep active. After all, the main reason I joined the gym was for my mental health. I've been going to yoga classes at my gym since I signed [...]

Why You Need Multiple To-Do Lists

2022-06-18T18:55:12+10:00

I love a good list. I love them so much I have them everywhere. Having multiple to-do lists means that I can keep my ideas in different places for different things. Important tasks, not so important but still need to be done and plans for the future. Seeing that checked off list makes me feel super productive. Why do lists work? Lists work because it helps tremendously to get the ideas out of your head. Once the items are out of your head, you don’t really need to keep remembering them because it’s on your list. Lists provide a simple [...]

My 2020 Word of the Year

2023-07-02T09:40:57+10:00

I did it in 2018 with great success. I did it again in 2019 with average success. And I'm doing it again in 2020. I've picked a word of the year. My 2020 word of the year is... Environment This year I want to focus on environment. And I've taken that to mean the physical environment of my house and the actual environment. I already know of a few ways I can improve this but I'd love to hear your suggestions. So far I have switched to more ethical and environmentally friendly versions of a few products. Ideally, I'd like to [...]

19 for 2019? Not Quite

2023-12-11T17:13:51+11:00

So much for 19 for 2019. It was more like 14 in 2019 for me. Which isn't too bad really. But at the same time, I did pick relatively easy items, that were once-off type things. 19 for 2019 ○ Have a legal will drawn up - I have enquired about this. But I left it a bit late in the year for it to fit into the budget around the end of the year. It's certainly something that will get done in the first half of next year. ○ Transfer house ownership - We are still debating whether we [...]

Mother Daughter Date Ideas on the Peninsula

2026-05-11T14:35:17+10:00

Lately, I've been enjoying some mother daughter dates in the beautiful place I live, the Peninsula. I love these little snippets of time that I get to spend with just her. And I have been making a real effort with her to just get out of the house for a few hours because TV seems to rule her life. Find out our favourite places to visit on for mother daughter dates on the Peninsula. Although I think I've also been to all of these places with my husband as a whole-family outing! I am that mum that judges other mums

2026-05-11T15:07:17+10:00

I am that mum that judges other mums. And I’m not afraid to admit it. And do you know why? Because I just myself more harshly than I judge anyone else. I’ve been that mum In many cases, I’ve been that mum. You know the one, where you look at the kid and think to yourself, I would never be like that/do that/let my child do that. Famous last words. My daughter often leaves the house in the morning without having brushed her teeth. There have been more occasions where her hair hasn’t been brushed. And the most embarrassing morning [...]

13 Things To Do When Going Through Fertility Treatment

2023-02-07T12:48:21+11:00

Infertility sucks. I know. I’ve been there. And I hid it from almost everyone I know. I was ashamed that my body wasn’t working the way it ‘should’. I hated every person that asked me when I was going to have a baby, now I hate it when they ask about having another baby. I’d hated every new pregnancy announcement. So I had to find things to do when going through fertility treatment. Put yourself first I put this first on the list because I believe it is the most important thing. And something that often needs to be re-learned [...]

Opening Up About Postnatal Depression

2019-08-01T19:11:22+10:00

I knew something was up when I realised that my daughter was five days old yet I had not kissed her once. This got me so worked up that my eyes filled with tears at the thought of it. I really struggled to kiss her then and there. You hear about people falling instantly in love with their child and feeling this special connection. I didn’t feel that. I spent perhaps an hour with my daughter before I was whisked off to surgery, to be reunited with her six hours after her birth. My daughter’s six-week maternal health nurse appointment [...]

Learning How To Give Myself Grace

2019-07-18T20:47:47+10:00

I have recently been learning how to give myself grace, particularly when it comes to my daughter. I’ve inherited a trait from my dad that I’ve only just noticed: impatience. I am very impatient with a short temper when it comes to my daughter. And it doesn’t take long before I start to feel how I did at the peak of my postnatal depression. So for me, learning how to give myself grace is becoming something I really need to pay attention to. I need to have more patience, more grace and put a lid on my temper. Some days [...]

9 Things I Would Tell Any New Mum

2019-06-28T19:38:37+10:00

New mums get so much advice. Sometimes it's useful. Other times it's just uncalled for. Here are the top 9 things I would tell any new mum. Get out of the house by yourself or with a friend ASAP I believe that taking my daughter out to lunch with my sister in law when she was less than a week old helped me in the long run. It prepared me to get her ready to be somewhere that didn’t have a time limit so that I knew what I needed when I did have a time limit. It made it [...]
