How I Made $0 In 5 Years of Blogging

Uncategorized|

If you go back to my first ever blog post, you will see that starting a blog was one of my goals for that year. And I honestly wanted to start a blog to make some extra money. Some years later and I wonder how I made $0 in 5 years of blogging. Spend money to make money I have to admit that I have been pretty lucky that I don’t have much in the way of expenses to run this blog. I started out on Blogger, a free blog platform owned by Google. When my husband started his digital [...]

How A Girls Night Changed My Life

Self Improvement|

I hosted my first girls night in January 2018, and that first girls night changed my life. It was such a great night that I hosted another one in February. I guess you could say the rest is history. Relationships were a major focus for me in 2018, one of the main ones was with my friends. I wanted to catch up with them more often and know more about their day to day lives. We all get busy with work, family, and other commitments. We often don’t make time to catch up with those that have been there for us. [...]

After the birth

Parenting|

After a total of four nights in the hospital, I was I was finally discharged. Armed with my birth notes, and a referral for a colorectal surgeon, we left the hospital. And boy, was I surprised at how hard the walk to the car was. All up it was about 100 metres but felt more like a 5k! Physical healing After being discharged I kept an eye on my stitches so I could see how things were improving. Ten days after the birth of my daughter it didn’t look right down there. My mum is a nurse so I asked [...]

The One Minute Rule

Goal Setting|

I first learned about the one minute rule while listening to the first episode of the Happier with Gretchen Rubin podcast. Since implementing the one minute rule into my life it turns out that I usually spend more time thinking about it than it takes to actually do it. The one minute rule If something will only take one minute to do, you should probably do it straight away. Put your shoes away when you take them off. If you have a task that can be done in less than a minute, do it without delay. If you don’t read [...]

How I Cut My Laundry Costs In Half

Parenting|

A while ago I caught a snippet from a morning show on Facebook where it was mentioned that it is not necessary to use the recommended amount when doing laundry. So I followed the advice and experimented a bit on my own. And the result was that I cut my laundry costs in half. Secret confession: Laundry is my favourite household chore. I put the machine on then get to do something else for almost an hour before I have to worry about it again. It takes me 10-15 minutes to hang it up (the right way), and it’s done! [...]

Goals for 2019

Self Improvement|

Once again this year I have decided not to set goals or resolutions, but pick a word, theme or phrase for the year. But again like last year I have chosen two themes for 2019. Around the middle of 2018, I decided to start thinking about what I wanted to accomplish in 2019. I have heard that the best time to set new goals for yourself is your birthday, rather than the start of the year. I think this makes it a bit obvious that my birthday is in the middle of the year. Health Health encompasses many things. Physical [...]

19 for 2019

Self Improvement|

I first heard about 18 for 2018 on the Happier with Gretchen Rubin podcast. So 19 for 2019 is not a new concept to me. But the thought of achieving 19 things this year was quite daunting. I’ve struggled over the years to stick to any new years resolutions that I make. So in 2018, I decided to pick a theme for the year. Actually, I picked two. I’ve also picked two main themes to focus on in 2019, but there are a lot of one-off things that I want to do too. So here is my 19 for 2019 [...]

Hindsight at the end of 2018

Self Improvement|

There is hindsight at the end of 2018. And of course, hindsight is always 20/20. But I think I did really well with my goals for the year. Rather than making a number of New Year's resolutions that ultimately fail, this year I decided to pick a theme. I actually picked two. My two themes were relationships and mise en place. Relationships The main relationships that I wanted to improve were my friendships, but I also wanted to become a bit closer with my extended family and colleagues. In January I started the tradition of the Squad Night off, which [...]

Summer Bucket List

Shop|

The end of the year is fast approaching and just like that 2018 is coming to an end. So what better way to kick of the end of the year than with a summer bucket list. Once again, a lot of these are experiences I had in my childhood. My dad used to set up the tent, and we would spend a few nights camping in the backyard. Last year I discovered some local fruit farms where you can pick your own fruit. It's so much fun and its now something we try to do a few times a year. [...]

Seven Ways To Ditch Overindulgence

Self Improvement|

The silly season is upon us and everywhere I look the tables are full of temptations. Between all of the end of year birthdays, work breakups and family Christmas parties it can become a little overwhelming. Then there is New Years to contend with. So here are seven ways to ditch overindulgence. Eat a good breakfast Having a full stomach means you will be less likely to snack on some not so healthy options. My breakfast protein mug is the perfect breakfast to keep you fuller for longer. Drink plenty of water Keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of water. It [...]

My Birth Story

Parenting|

After childbirth, everyone wants to hear your birth story. What you expected, what you experienced and of course what pain medication you had. My number one goal for the birth of my daughter was to avoid a cesarean. The next goal was to avoid an induced labour. But I was given an induction date at my 40-week appointment. Which was 12 days after my due date. I honestly didn’t try to interfere too much but I felt confident that I could avoid being induced. I had two ‘stretch and sweeps’, the second being a bit more vigorous than the first. [...]

Toddler Friendly Zucchini Recipes

Recipe|

Finding appropriate toddler foods can be difficult so I'm sharing my favourite toddler friendly zucchini recipes. I’ve been so lucky that my daughter seems to like everything we have given her. There have been a few things that she doesn’t appear to like, but I’ve noticed it comes down to the texture. There have also been a few cases of things not agreeing with her little tummy. But she seems to have grown out of most of those. It doesn’t take long before your toddler wants to feed them self so having bite-size food is a must. Zucchini slice was one of [...]
