You might have to fight a battle more than once to beat it - Margaret Thatcher #battle #battles #margaretthatcher #torries #quotes
I’m sure nothing would get done if people gave up after the first try. Some people wouldn’t have children. Some people wouldn’t finish high school or university. Some people wouldn’t make it to the top of their field. Some people wouldn’t do the right thing. And sadly, some people might not live to see another day.

Never judge a book by its move - JW Egan #books #book #bookquote #quotes #jwegan

I have finally jumped on the Divergent bandwagon. I actually don’t think I’m that late either. Although, the best thing about being late to jump on the bandwagon is the remainder of the series has been published & I don’t have to wait to find out what’s next (besides waiting for it to be available at the library).

I picked this up from the library on Wednesday night, after waiting for a few months. (I currently have 3 books on hold at the library & another 6 checked out)
I only get a chance to read when I take my lunch break lately as my other time outside work is devoted to crochet & household duties at the moment. But of course, that may change if I am unable to put this book down!

I am only up to chapter 3 but like it enough to want to know what happens next. It’s always hard starting a new book; learning the characters, the setting, new words.

Quote Monday #7

Love me when I least deserve it because that's when I really need it - Swedish Proverb #lovequote #proverb #quotesI remind my husband of this quote every now & then. You know those days when nothing appears to be going right & the world seems to be against you? Losing your temper at the drop of a hat & moping around hating everyone? Those are the days I need someone to tell me to stop, take a deep breath, relax and then give me a hug, even if I have been saying horrible things.

Growing Leeks

Last week I experimented in the kitchen and purchased lots of things I wouldn’t normally buy. Prawns, lemongrass, coriander, sesame oil, fish sauce, leek, and whole red chillis.
A few of the items still had their roots attached and it got me thinking. I had seen that you could put spring onions in a glass of water and they would regrow. There should be no reason why anything else with its root intact would be any different.

Growing Leeks

I did a bit more research and found not much equipment was required. In most cases, just a glass of fresh water and a sunny spot was all it should take.

A shot glass was the perfect size for the leek. It wasn’t too wide, so the leek would sit upright. It was deep enough to fill with a little bit of water. The perfect spot was the west-facing window from the kitchen.

I did notice that you need to change the water almost daily. The water did get smelly if left for too long. And after a really sunny day, it would evaporate. Harley was quite curious about it at first, giving it a few sniffs. He soon lost interest and left it to be.

Here is the leek after being the in water for one week. It was sliced cleanly off but has grown quite a bit in a week.
I have also put some coriander in some water but I can’t tell if it is making any progress. I’m not too fussed if it doesn’t take off. I’m not sure what I would use coriander for.
I also have some garlic cloves that seem to have sprouted in the cupboard. I might pop them into some soil and see what happens.

Holding onto anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die - Buddha #buddha #buddhaquotes #quotes

I think a lot of wise quotes have come from Buddha & this is one of them. I liken this quote to getting angry at bad traffic. There is nothing that can be done about it & it will probably leave you in a bad mood for the rest of the day. So it’s best to just let it go & move on.

Harley the Pom meets a Friend

Harley the Pom meets a friend so that when he is older he will be able to interact with other dogs appropriately. Unfortunately, he was too old to go to puppy school. But luckily for us, we know a few people with dogs. There are also a few obedience dog clubs that we can attend if need be. I love the idea of teaching Harley some basic obedience and maybe a trick or two. But perhaps we should start with house breaking.

Harley’s personality has developed so much in the month that we have had him. I only had pet fish or rabbits growing up. They are very different to dogs, or even cats. So this was all new to me. Our rabbits were originally caught in wild. We bred them and sold them to the local pet shop. I remember one year we had 36 baby rabbits in our backyard. I should mention that this was in the early 90’s. A lot has changed since then!

Now I finally understand what people mean when they say their pet is a family member. If you don’t have that, it’s really hard to describe and understand. And one day I will know what it’s like to lose that family member.

Harley the Pom meets a Friend

This is a video of Harley playing with his cousin, Boston. Boston is a one-year-old black cavoodle. A cavoodle is a cross between a Cavalier King Charles and a Poodle.

We can see that Harley thinks he is the dominant one. He will probably also suffer from ‘small dog syndrome’. But only time will tell. What happens at the end gave us quite a surprise as we didn’t know when dogs develop those behaviours.

Quote Monday #5

To love oneself is the beginning of a life long romance - Oscar Wilde #oscarwilde #quotesI totally agree with this & I think you need to love yourself before you are able to fully love someone else. Self-love is one of the best feelings. It’s confident, it’s sexy, it’s contagious. Although it can come off as being conceited, no one is going to toot your horn for you, you will have to do that yourself.

I introduce the Tim Tam Slam. A different way to get a chocolate fix.

Those who don't believe in magic will never find it - Roald Dahl #roalddalh #magic #quotes #books #bookquotes

I (like many people, I’m sure) wish magic was real. My favourite place to find magic is in a book. Admittedly the majority of those are children’s books, think The BFG, The Magic Faraway Tree, Harry Potter etc. None the less, everyone needs a bit of magic in their life. I think magic can inspire people to be better & do great things.
